## Methodology

### Pace Calculation
Win pace = (wins ÷ games played) × 162

This projects a team's current win percentage over a full 162-game season.
It is a pace calculation, not a predictive model.

### Year-over-Year Delta
Delta = current wins − prior season wins at the same games-played point

A delta of +10 means the team has 10 more wins through the same number of games
compared to the same point last season.

### Chaos Index
Counts how many of the 30 MLB teams are tracking ±5 or more wins vs the prior season
at the same games-played point.

A higher Chaos Index means more teams are diverging from last year's script.

### Starter Signal
For each starting pitcher with 3+ starts:
- Team record in those starts
- Win percentage
- 162-game pace
- Runs scored per game
- Runs allowed per game
- Run differential

Top 2 combined stats show the "1–2 punch" pace.
"Everyone else" shows the rest-of-rotation pace.
Gap = top-two pace minus everyone-else pace.

### Payroll Efficiency
Cost per projected win = Opening Day payroll (USD millions) ÷ current 162-game win pace

Lower = better value per projected win.

All game data is sourced from the official MLB Stats API:
https://statsapi.mlb.com/api/v1/schedule

Only completed regular-season games are used.
Live, postponed, and suspended games are excluded until final.
The site is not affiliated with or endorsed by Major League Baseball.

Payroll data is sourced from Spotrac (updated each offseason).
