MLB Pace Tracker
The standings tell you where teams are. The MLB Pace Tracker tells you where they're headed — by comparing every team's current season to prior seasons at the exact same point.
What is the MLB Pace Tracker?
Track The Season's pace tracker compares each MLB team's current record to their record in prior seasons at the same number of games played. Instead of asking "how good is this team today?", it asks: "how does this season compare to seasons we already know the outcome of?"
If a team is 38–30 through 68 games and their 2023 season also had them at 36–32 through 68 games, Track The Season identifies 2023 as a historical comp — and shows how that season finished.
How is win pace calculated?
Win pace = (wins ÷ games played) × 162. A team that is 40–30 through 70 games has a win pace of (40 ÷ 70) × 162 = 92.6 wins. This is a pace projection, not a predictive model — it assumes the current win rate holds for the rest of the season.
What questions does it answer?
- Which MLB teams are ahead of last year's pace?
- Which teams are improving the fastest right now?
- Is this team on pace for a playoff season?
- How does this season compare to the team's best recent years?
- Which teams are trending up or down over the last 10, 20, or 30 games?
Year-over-year delta
The delta metric shows how many more (or fewer) wins a team has compared to last season at the same games-played point. A delta of +10 means the team has 10 more wins through the same number of games as last year. A delta of –8 means they are 8 wins behind last year's pace.
